Why you want to Copycat Nutella

Has anybody else eaten Nutella straight from the jar?  Yeah… Me too… Its flavor and texture is just on point. But did you know that Nutella’s ingredient composition is 58% refined sugar?! And 32% fat… Coming mainly from Palm Oil (which the production of this ingredient alone is responsible for 8% of deforestation from 1990-2008 😭

).  This is devastating to so many beautiful areas of the world! I’d like to do my part in sharing this knowledge, so you can make educated decisions when you go to the grocery store! This is exactly why I created these Copycat Nutella Truffle Balls!

Let’s talk alternatives!!! These snack balls are only 4 ingredients and have NO palm oil and NO refined sugar. If you’re craving that smooth chocolatey hazelnut taste seriously make these! They’re so healthy and taste like a cross between straight Nutella and a Ferraro Rocher! Seriously guys these things are legit, instead of rolling into balls you could use this stuff as you would regular Nutella by adding a small amount of almond milk and continuing to blend until more liquidy. Let me know in the comments how you used to eat Nutella… We all have our own way!

If you’re interested in a homemade spread that rivals true Nutella spread, check out this Dark Chocolate Toasted Hazelnut Spread. It’s to die for!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup toasted hazelnuts, skinned
  • 15 dates
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp agave or maple syrup

Directions

Blend hazelnuts in food processor until powdered. Add in all other ingredients and process until a big ball forms in the food processor and the mixture becomes doughy. Make into cute little balls, roll in cacao powder, coconut shreds, drizzle with dark chocolate, or simply devour as is.

Notes

  • To toast the hazelnuts: preheat the oven to 350°, place hazelnuts on baking sheet on the center rack and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly colored and skins are blistered. Wrap nuts in kitchen towel and let steam for 1 minute. Rub nuts in towel to remove the loose skins (don’t sweat it if there is still some skin remaining). Done!
