CRISPY GARLIC KALE CHIP GARDEN
I’m hoping the make endless Kale Chips out of my 6 plants that I have this spring. They’re growing so quickly, I’m very proud! Soon they will be the most delicious little leaves in the world, freshly baked and doused in garlic salt.
NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS
As I’m sure you’ve heard, kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods that you can eat. I’d argue that these Crispy Garlic Kale Chips are one of the most fun ways to eat it! Honestly it’s the only way I could eat an entire bunch of Lacinato Kale in one sitting LOL.
Kale has so many health benefits, and part of what makes them so rich in nutrients also gives it the classic bitterness that many people dislike about kale. Glucosinolate, the compound in kale that fights cancer, is the culprit! The good news is that you can keep this powerful compound, and ditch the bitterness in less than 5 minutes. There’s a reason I’m asking you to literally massage the kale before baking it! It makes a huge difference in the tenderness and taste of the chip, I promise it’s worth it!
Kale Chip Addiction Disclaimer!
I’ve shared this recipe with friends and they’ve gone addicted! I can’t promise you won’t become one of those hippies in the grocery store with 4 bundles of kale in their cart. Now you just have to share this recipe with all those people wondering what you’re going to do with all of it! Hope you love this quick, nutritious, and easy recipe friends! Let me know how they taste 🙂
INGREDIENTS
- 2 heads of Kale (I used a Lacinato variety)
- 2-3 tbsp Olive Oil
- 3-4 cloves of garlic, minced or mashed
- 1-3 tsp of fresh cracked Himalayan pink salt
Directions
Wash the kale and dry completely. Preheat the oven to 350F. Rip pieces of the leaves off of the stems and place the pieces into a large bowl. Pour olive oil, garlic, and salt onto the kale. Using your hands (gloves can be helpful here), massage the kale for 3-5 minutes, pressing your fingers and thumbs together to break down the stiff fibers of the leaves.
Place the finished product on a parchment lined baking sheet being sure not to overcrowd. Bake for 18-22 minutes tossing the kale halfway through. Remove from oven, let sit 2-3 minutes and enjoy! Top with extra salt and pepper to your taste.
Notes
- You can use any kind of kale that you find in the grocery store. Make sure it’s Organic though as Kale is on the Dirty Dozen List because the conventional varieties are heavily sprayed with pesticides.
- Make sure your kale is completely dry. This ensures that you’re going to get a crispy chip!
- Don’t skip the massaging portion of this recipe, it’s crucial! Read why in the blog post 🙂
- Bake longer depending on how crispy you want the chips. All ovens are different, but I find they’re perfect to eat a few minutes after they’ve been taken out of the oven (peak crisp)
- Use these kale chips to top salads, crumble over potatoes, or even sprinkle on pizza, the options are endless!
